Professor Nucleo Amadeus McRaven

"After years of careful study and research I have concluded...that I am cute!"

Nucleo is a professor of archaeology at the Mage University of Grimmora. He is the husband of Image Arcane and father of Cory McRaven. He is also a powerful Dark Mage and strong physical fighter. As a member of the Aridian Mountaindevil race, (short, cave-dwelling, catlike humanoids with wings), he has heightened agility, awareness, and strength.

Nucleo was sold into slavery at a young age, but managed to escape the mines. He was adopted and educated by the Mage School's headmistress, Aurora Taglisa. Eventually, he befriended Chance Tomasaro and the two of them led a team of adventurers to save the planet Phainein from destruction during the Great Elemental Wars (also known as the War of the Seven Towers). Nucleo also helped liberate many others of his kind who had been made slaves to demon-elf sorcerers when he fought against Zephyr Arcane's army.

During the war, Nucleo was reunited with his beloved wife, Image Arcane, who had been long thought dead. The two have returned to their life at the Mage University. In the summer months, they go on archaeological expeditions, and during the off-season they teach various classes. While some students, like Christopher Paladin and Jack Sheen, are notorious for being rather unruly with other teachers, they tend to be more well-behaved around Professor McRaven. They also continue to look after their only child, Cory, whom they love and support, but have a rather "hands-off" approach to raising.

Nucleo may look ferocious, but he is rather mellow, and only becomes vicious if he, or his friends or family are threatened. Kind and compassionate, he cares deeply about the preservation and future of the planet. He is intelligent, but tends to be impulsive and once he gets an idea in his head, for better or for worse, good luck getting it out. He will eat just about anything and can fall asleep just about anywhere. He is also somewhat narcissistic, and despite being a winged creature, he is curiously afraid of heights.

Nucleo has also taken personal responsibility for the reformed Dr. Honen Calzoun. Dr. Calzoun and Prof. McRaven were once archenemies, but put aside their differences to fight against the Elemental Gods together. Honen is now attempting to settle into a more normal life and seems to respect his former rival.
